Why standards matter
Second Nature by Terevia is designed to give businesses structured, documented participation while Terevia uses part of its own revenue to support approved UK conservation organisations. Partner Standards v1 explains the principles we use when deciding which organisations may be included in the programme.
These standards are intentionally practical. They are not an accreditation framework, impact certification, charity rating, or independent audit. They are a governance baseline for selecting organisations whose work can be described clearly and responsibly.
What we look for
UK nature work
The organisation must carry out conservation, habitat, restoration, education, access or nature recovery work in the UK.
Clear organisation status
We review the organisation type, public presence and available registration or governance information where applicable.
Factual reporting
The organisation must be able to provide clear information about its work that can be presented without overstated claims.
Long-term fit
We prioritise organisations suited to ongoing support rather than one-off campaigns or short-term promotional activity.
How organisations are reviewed
Terevia reviews each potential nature partner before including them in the programme. The review may include organisation details, operating region, stated conservation activity, public information, registration details where relevant, and a conversation with the organisation.
Approval means the organisation has been accepted by Terevia for inclusion in the programme. It does not mean Terevia has independently audited environmental outcomes, certified impact, or verified every activity carried out by the organisation.
Careful public presentation
Partner names, descriptions and updates may appear in Programme Updates, Documentation Packs, participant records and public materials once consent has been confirmed. Information is presented factually and should not imply that a participating business caused a specific environmental outcome.
Terevia does not describe participation as an offset, accreditation, certification, carbon neutral claim, net zero claim, or product-level environmental claim.
Standards will mature over time
Partner Standards v1 is the first public version of this governance document. As the programme grows, Terevia expects the standards, review process and documentation requirements to become more detailed while remaining proportionate for UK conservation organisations.
